When building a new home or making an addition, the electrician and plumber will do a rough-in. By following the building plans, and planning where each pipe, drain and outlet will go, the plumber and electrician will put in each element. They often work together to accomplish this. Then the inspectors will look an make sure the plumbing rough-in will pass inspection. Part of this may be done before concrete is poured in the basement, after wall studs are placed in the walls, or floors and ceilings installed. In this video you see what a plumbing rough-in looks like. Notice the electric outlets, wiring, drains and water pipes are all in place.
