When buying a home there are some specific things you should look for to ensure you avoid some major plumbing problems. First and foremost, look for huge trees. If there are giant trees in the lawn chances are there are huge roots under the ground. This means eventually they will get into your plumbing pipes. You may also notice musty odors in the basement. These could mean there is a drain clogged with roots. Of course you can take actions to remove the roots but remember to consider the added expense. Also if you do have flooding issues due to tree roots your homeowners insurance may not pay for the repair unless you have a special rider attached.
