A garburator works by grinding small pieces of food into tiny particles that can be washed down the drain. To avoid problems never put potatoes, corn husk or other things that are hard to grind, into your garburator. This can cause it to clog. You may also want to use a disposal cleaner regularly to keep odors and debris out of the pipes. If your garburator will not run at, try pressing the reset button. If this does not work you need to check for a flipped breaker or a bad switch. If you see leaking around the top, you can replace the gasket or splash guard. However if you have a leak around the housing, the unit will have to be replaced. Sometimes the grinder is just jammed, in which case you can use something, like a broom handle to manually turn it and free it up.
